Following our collaboration with AMKFSC Mindcare (see previous blog - click here), we were approached by AMKFSC COMNET Senior Services. They wanted to kickstart cycling workshops and sessions for seniors at one of their many Active Aging Centres across Singapore. This program is intended to empower vulnerable senior residents through sports and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The program was met enthusiastically by the seniors but they needed bicycles. As these seniors live in rental flats and are less nimble, we felt that folding bikes would be ideal since they are small and portable enough to suit their needs.
Although we were unable to secure a corporate sponsor for 20 folding bikes, thanks to private sponsors and members of the public, we were able to send 7 folding bikes to some of the seniors on 15 Feb.
It was a hectic afternoon filled with logistic and transport challenges as we've never sent so many bikes before. We matched the bikes to rider as best we could with the help of staff at the centre.
Our appreciation goes out to Mei Hui and Florence from COMNET Senior Service who worked with us to enhance the lives of these disadvantaged seniors.
Huge thanks to bike donors (all chose to remain anonymous) and 'SGBikeFund' repair sponsors Phua Y C, Sam Koh, Clara Yue, Ibu Kuching, Auzistar and Lee H B.
