How to donate a bike

Hi,

Since we were featured on Mediacorp's TodayOnline, you guys have been great and reaching out to us with your unwanted bikes.

Just want to share some thoughts on this:

1. You may wish to note:

a)  Budget bikes generally spoil too fast and hence are expensive to keep repairing so we only give them to migrant workers who are on short term contract to work in Singapore. We send good quality and durable bikes to local families.

b) We do not have anything against any beneficiary selling their bike if they need money for an emergency. We tell them the value in the used bike market (usually close to the value of sponsorship) so they have a safety net of last resort.

c) We have limited space (about 50sqm) so we may not be able to take your unwanted bike quickly. Please be patient with us.

d) Donate the type of bike that you would give to a close relative as a birthday present. If you would not, then perhaps asking your town council to clear it is a better option. Any bike can be refurbished but our resources is not unlimited and refurbishing an 'end-of-life' bike is not prudent use of sponsorship monies.

2. Please service your bike before donating it. Alternatively, you can contribute to our refurbishing and repair costs by making a contribution to our 'SGBikeFund' which goes towards repair, parts and logistic costs.

 3. We can only send out bikes we receive as donations so please consider donating a bike you no longer use or need.

If you are a facilities/property manager, please expect that we will only take what is needed. We are unable help you to clear all your abandoned bikes, no charity in Singapore can do that.

David
